Becoming “Indifferent To”

Becoming “indifferent to” without the labor of study - In a life of limitless choices becoming “indifferent to” is a daunting task to avoid without the passion of practice and study. What I love about being a working artist is the work, not the end product.

The function, flow and wakening energy of creating something new is an addiction for most artists. When your art/skill/practice becomes your mistress, a culture of generosity can coexist with the ethics of profit (a.k.a. – making money by doing something you love.) It’s a point of ecstasy and a different reality when you enter this creative point of fulfillment.

Society values consumerism as a substitute for the creative process. It is easy to become “indifferent to” the whatnots that make up our lives. Understanding art, food, education, health and exercise has lost the resonance that drove our culture forward.

Lacey + Colin {married}

Everyone was so lovely at this wedding. I had so much fun taking Lacey and Colin's engagement photos that I knew their wedding would be a blast. They are both such kind and warm people. They were very blessed to get an amazing fall day. I couldn't resist playing with the colorful leafs.
Look at how beautiful the sun makes these photos look.I really {enjoyed} Lacey's dress and how original it is. The detail was very lovely.They had their ceremony and reception at Edinborough Park in Edina.Congratulations Lacey and Colin; I hope you had an amazing trip to Paris!

Here is a nice email I got from Lacey and Colin:

Dear Erin, Melissa and Ellie,
How do we even begin to thank you for the beautiful pictures you took at our wedding. The photos you posted on your blog are just a snapshot (no pun intended) of our special day and you captured it perfectly. We were blessed with a wonderful fall day and we are so glad you could be there with us. Many of our friends and family commented on your kindness and professionalism and we couldn't agree more. Thank you so much for capturing the details of our wedding so that we could have them forever!
We look forward to seeing the rest of the photos and can't wait for our bridal session in a month.

Thank you again!
Lacey and Colin Cutler

{a little smile}

I like this photo that my assistant, Melissa, got of me at our last wedding. Photographing weddings just makes me so happy. Thanks for the shot Melissa.

Kaylin and Jake :: Married

Kaylin and Jake, September 28, 2008
Victory Church - Waupaca, WI
Bridgewood Resort - Neenah, WI

I first met Kaylin and her mom, Julie, for a consultation... and no Jake. Jake was overseas serving in Iraq. They had set a date and then later found out that Jake might not be home that soon. So they pushed the date back a bit. Luckily for me they picked Sunday, September 28. I was glad it wasn't Saturday... I had an "official" day off on the 27th to celebrate my son's second birthday. I turned down many consultations for that day... I don't want to be the mom who has to shoot a wedding on her child's birthday.

So Sunday the 28th it was! The weather was slightly overcast, the Packers game was playing on the radio and best of all... Jake was home and ready to be married to the love of his life. The day was perfect and so was everything else.

In the pink :: details

While Jake was away, Kaylin and Julie did a lot of planning and handiwork. All of the couple's invitations, programs, name cards, menu cards, napkin holders had intricate detail all done by hand. Their friends and family at their church were all on hand to decorate the sanctuary with tall white pillars, hanging candles and an aisle runner. There were 9 wedding cakes at the reception! All of the tables were named for virtues of a strong marriage. No detail was left unnoticed...
