What an awesome experience! I was privileged to document the birth of Lydia. Joe and Monica (mom and dad) have been friends of mine for a long time. I photographed their wedding and have done a few family shoots for them. Which makes it all the more special to watch them grow and change as a family. Monica delivered Lydia at home with the help of two midwives. The whole process is so different then the hospital. (I had both my babies in the hospital and have documented another birth in the hospital. I have also photographed another friend's birth at her home.) The midwives are so thorough and natural. I loved watching Joe and Monica together. Both of their mother's were also there. When I document a birth I look for the relationships and the emotions. There is so much beauty when a baby is born.
Here she is, less than an hour old. The midwives do a baby exam to check her weight, height and everything else you could ever imagine.
This is how they weighed her. She was placed in a little sack that has a scale attached at the top. Similar to the grocery store when you weigh your fruit and veggies.
This is before Lydia was born. Joe was a great birthing coach!
Congratulations again Monica and Joe! Thank you so much for letting me be there!
